Trails

The City maintains a number of trails for recreational use. The Bangor Land Trust also maintains a number of links to download printable maps and includes information on outdoor programs.

Brown Woods

Details: 28 acres located between Finson and Davis Roads with a picnic area. The parking lot is located off Ohio Street, and dog-walking is permitted.

City Forest

Color Map

Details: A popular network of trails located off of Stillwater Avenue. The City Forest includes forest access trails, foot trails, wetlands and examples of reforestation and tree regeneration. Many Bangor residents enjoy the City Forest for hiking, running, cross country skiing, and mountain biking. Dog-walking is permitted.

Downtown

Details: The Kenduskeag Stream Parkway threads through Downtown Bangor to the Waterfront and is excellent for walking and dog-walking is permitted.  This scenic trail is landscaped and runs along the Penobscot River.  Picnic areas are available along the waterfront.

Essex Woods

Details:  Essex Woods encompasses about 70 acres of land and includes a popular sledding hill.  Parking is available off Watchmaker Street.  The trails run through wetlands and reforested areas and is an appropriate location for hiking, mountain biking and cross country skiing.

Kenduskeag Stream

Details:  The trail along Kenduskeag Stream is groomed and provides an excellent terrain for running and/or walking.  Picnic areas are available along the trail.  Parking is available on Harlow Street, just before and after crossing the Kenduskeag Stream.

Northeast Penjajawoc

Details:  The Northeast Penjajawoc Trail is located off of Kittredge Road.  The Northeast Penjajawoc Trail is a Bangor Land Trust trail.

Prentiss Woods

Details: Prentiss Woods is a forest preserve adjacent to Bangor High School. A parking lot is located off of Grandview Avenue, with additional parking at the high school. Prentiss Woods offers 7,290’ of trails covering 25.5 acres.

Walden Parke

Details: Walden Parke Blue Trail is located near Essex Street, near the Edgewood Subdivision at the end of Tamarack Trail. The Walden Park Trail is a Bangor Land Trust trail.


Bangor Area Trails Map - Bangor Greendrinks

Local environmental non-profit Bangor Greendrinks created a Bangor Area Trails map and guide in 2018. The guide is updated annually. It is a great resource to find riverfront strolls, solitary walks in the woods, challenging singletrack for mountain biking, and winter trails for cross-country skiing, showshoeing, and biking.
