Public Works

Our mission is to provide dependable, high‑quality public works services that support a safe, resilient, and well‑maintained community for our city of some 32,000 residents, as well as the estimated 14,000 people who travel into Bangor each day for services, employment, and commerce.

Through the dedication and expertise of our skilled professionals, we manage, maintain, and enhance the critical infrastructure that keeps our city operating every day. This includes our streets and sidewalks — along with their associated signage and pavement markings — signalization systems, highway arterials and bridges, drainage infrastructure, public forest, public buildings, fleet, and all other assets that form the backbone of daily life. When conditions demand it, our team also works around the clock to ensure safe and reliable winter road and sidewalk clearing and maintenance.

We are committed to delivering reliable, efficient, and cost‑effective operations guided by a strong focus on public safety, sustainability, and long‑term stewardship of community resources. Our department takes pride in responding swiftly and professionally to the needs of residents, businesses, and visitors, ensuring that city services remain dependable in every season and during every challenge.

By upholding high standards of accountability, transparency, and technical excellence, we aim to enhance the quality of life for all who live, work, and travel through our city. We strive to foster trust through proactive communication, thoughtful planning, and a culture of continuous improvement. Together, we work to build, maintain, and protect the infrastructure that supports economic vitality, environmental health, and a thriving future for our entire community.
