12/11/2014 - Downtown Countdown New Year's Eve Celebration Wants You to 'Be the Bunyan'

The 2014/2015 Downtown Countdown, presented by Cross Insurance, takes place Wednesday, December 31, with festivities beginning late afternoon and ending with the iconic beach ball drop at midnight in West Market Square in Downtown Bangor.

Again This Year - We are proud to continue the tradition of the Annual Mr. & Mrs. Paul Bunyan competition. Contestants will have the chance to compete for the title in an entertaining and spirited pageant style competition. The competition will take place in two parts: first on social media, then in Downtown Bangor on Wednesday, December 31, 2014, and features entrants (male and female) competing against each other throughout the evening for a chance to win some exciting prizes (including tickets donated by Waterfront Concerts, and gift certificates to raft donated by Northeast Whitewater), and the opportunity to proudly wear the “cap” of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bunyan!

The competition is open to the public. Anyone above the age of 18 is encouraged to submit an application on the Downtown Countdown website (www.countdownbangor.com). The finalists selected as contestants will be selected on December 17th. The public will vote online via the Downtown Countdown website from December 19th to the 29th to determine the contestants’ “Social Buzz” scores.

Also This Year - Revelers will have the chance to purchase a $5 “Downtown Countdown” Button that will offer exclusive offers and discounts at area businesses throughout the month of January. The buttons will be available New Year’s Eve at Epic Sports, which will serve as the Information Hub of the evening.

Started in 2006, businesses and venues throughout the heart of the City open their doors and invite visitors to celebrate the New Year with entertainment the whole family can enjoy. The events this year include performances, live music, dining options, and interactive kid-friendly events; ending with the ball drop at midnight in West Market Square.
