The City of Bangor to
Accept Credit Card Payments
Using the Maine PayPort
Service
Bangor,
Maine: Effective
August 1, 2018, the City of Bangor will utilize InforME’s third-party payment
processors PayPort and PayPort Online Services for credit/debit card
processing. InforME, the State of
Maine’s e-government provider, has been processing electronic payments for
Maine’s state and local governments since 1999 and has processed more than 80
million payment transactions. The new
system is a change and enhancement to the City’s credit/debit card policy and
will allow for in-person and online payments of any amounts owed the City.
PayPort enables the City to accept Visa,
MasterCard, Discover, and American Express credit card payments at the counter
for items such as parking tickets, vehicle registrations, licenses, permits,
bus passes, invoices, utility bills, and property taxes.
PayPort Online Service is a convenient way
for citizens to pay their Personal Property Tax, Real Estate Tax, and Utility
Payments online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. InforME already provides other
online services, such as Rapid Renewal for vehicle registration,
ATV/Boat/Snowmobile registrations, Dog Licensing and Hunting and Fishing
Licenses for the City of Bangor.
InforME’s transactions will be subject to an
administrative cost equal to 2.5% of the transaction or $1.00 minimum. All
customers will be informed of the amount of the administrative costs prior to
the payment being processed to allow the customer to choose an alternate form
of payment (check or cash) if they so choose.
All private customer data is handled securely
according to the most up-to-date and stringent security standards. InforME is
CyberTrust certified the industry gold standard for security and PCI/DSS
compliant.
