7/13/2015 - Bogus Water Bill Collection Attempts Reported
Bangor Water is warning its customers of recent bogus telephone calls attempting to collect payments on water bills.
The caller typically says the customer has missed a payment or the
payment can’t be processed. The customer is asked to purchase a prepaid
debit card, and call with card information. Often, that call will be
answered by someone pretending to be with the water utility.
Bangor Water does not contact customers who accounts are in good
standing, and does not ask customers to purchase prepaid cards to make a
payment. Customers who receive such calls should verify their account
standing with Bangor Water (207-947-4516), and information on making
water bill payments is on the back of customers’ bills.
