Construction to begin on Pickering Square improvement project

BANGOR, Maine – Construction is scheduled to begin the week of June 10, 2024, on the Pickering Square improvement project.

The work will include installing a new sidewalk infrastructure and plaza pavers. Amenities also will include several seating options, decorative in-ground lighting and an art-display kiosk. Also planned are the planting of native trees and shrubs, better drainage and various electrical improvements.

The first phase of the work will include installing a temporary fence around the construction area. Access to the Pickering Square parking garage and pedestrian bridge will remain open during this early phase of work. As construction progresses, pedestrian access to the parking garage and the bridge will be limited. Public notices will be provided prior to any restrictions on access. At no point will vehicle access to the parking garage be impeded.

The Community Connector bus service and the Transit Center will remain in operation and will not be disrupted by the construction, which is being performed by Street’s Landscape & Lawn Care of Old Town.

The work is scheduled to be completed by Oct. 31, 2024.
