3/29/2024 - City of Bangor marks Community Development Week

BANGOR, Maine – The City is one of just five municipalities in Maine that annually receive Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding, and this year the City is placing an emphasis on increasing engagement and resident involvement in planning for how to use that funding.

The City's community development team is jumpstarting this effort during Community Development Week, from April 1 to 5.

Highlights of the week include two workshops to discuss the Annual Action Plan, which guides the Community Development Department in forming investment activities using the CDBG program. These workshops occur on Tuesday and Thursday, and registration is requested to plan for attendance.

On Friday, April 5, community development staff will be at the Bangor Public Library from 2 to 4 p.m. with many of our subrecipient grantees to talk about the projects that have been funded by CDBG dollars. During this reception, participants will also receive information about community development programs and engagement efforts.

Beyond Community Development Week, staff are looking into more opportunities on the horizon, including several tenant forums, a city-wide survey, neighborhood meetings, and opportunities for staff to join local events that can offer valuable insight and foster new collaborations.

The City believes this outreach strategy will be a positive promotion of Community Development Week and present opportunities to get resident feedback. All residents are invited to learn about community development efforts during these events.
