Patrol Division
The Patrol Division consists of 57 sworn officers and is the backbone of the department. It provides protection for the people and property of the City 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and is the first line of protection for the City’s 32,000+ residents, a population that increases to over 80,000 during weekday work hours. The Patrol Division answers over 30,000 calls for service each year.
The Patrol Division responds to all types of emergencies, from car accidents to homicides. Patrol Officers receive regular training in order to handle the varied tasks that they may encounter, including yearly mandatory 40-hour in-service training, some of which is conducted on location at the Bangor Police Department.
The Patrol Division has one officer assigned specifically to a walking beat in the downtown district. Our Accident Reconstruction Unit is used frequently when the necessity arises. A K-9 Unit, consisting of two multi-purpose K-9 teams and three bomb detection K-9 teams has proven to be an effective part of the Division. The multi-purpose K-9 teams are assigned one each to the day shift and the overnight shift, and the bomb detection teams are assigned to the airport division at Bangor International Airport.
A Special Enforcement Team has been established to focus on defined problems, especially those impacting on the quality of life in our neighborhoods. This team exemplifies our commitment, not only to respond to problems, but to address their root causes.
