Incumbent is responsible for support for all City of Bangor workspace systems and peripherals including desktop PCs, laptop PCs, tablets, phones, printer/scanners and peripherals that are associated with these devices.
DUTIES
• Installs, maintains and provides technical support and training for employee computers and associated devices including desktops, laptops/notebooks, tablets, mobile units (MDTs), operating systems, VOIP phone, equipment and applications with all City Departments and Divisions.
• Responsible for documenting all new and existing systems, procedures, and network diagrams as assigned.
• Assists with local server/switch system maintenance, including hardware / software installation and/or upgrades.
• Supports Microsoft Office 365 apps including email and anti-virus applications installed on all systems (servers and user desktops).
• Supports backup/restore hardware, software and IT policies pertaining to data and system backup.
• Installs and assists with IP based camera systems and assists with the management of Access Control Systems installed at various City department locations.
• Instructs and trains users on various IT systems and IT standards and policies for system users.
• Performs other related duties as assigned Information Technology (IT) Administrator.
• Coordinates all end user computer, network devices, and system training as assigned/needed.
• Works within a help desk ticket environment by creating, processing, and closing help desk tickets and inputting and tracking IT related purchases.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
• A high degree of discretion when working with sensitive data, equipment, and areas is required.
• Incumbent is expected to maintain confidential information and shall refrain from disclosing to any other party any information deemed confidential.
• Being able to provide excellent customer service and communicate effectively with others while providing IT supports.
• A degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field of study is preferred, but not mandatory. Some responsible experience: or any combination of training and experience that provides the necessary skills, knowledge and abilities is required.
• Thorough understanding of computers, including mobile computers, client server hardware, operating systems, application, and communication software as stated above.
• Working knowledge of City governmental agencies and operations is desirable.
• Possession of interpersonal communication skills and ability to express self orally and in writing.
• Knowledge of various Operating Systems, such as Windows, Linux, and some familiarity of VMWare.
• Basic understanding of networks and system diagnostic tools for networking.
• Knowledge of imaging/cloning software for deployment of systems.
• Experience with Microsoft Office 365 apps (Word, Excel, Access, and Exchange), and Adobe Software.
• Familiar with Anti-virus and Anti-Spam application software.
• Ability to present technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences, including non-technical.
• Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision at solving problems.
• Works in conjunction with all Information Services staff in all areas of system wide, and network management as needed.
• Ability to quickly learn and meet deadlines.
• Ability to document and maintain modifications to existing systems.
• Other duties as assigned by the Information Technology Administrator
DIFFICULTY OF WORK
Incumbent performs duties according to priorities set by the Information Technology Administrator. Most work is accomplished according to general guidelines that require judgment in selection or adaptation of standard practices and procedures to obtain desired results. Work is relatively broad in scope and requires consideration of the special purposes and functions of individualized units of City government.
RESPONSIBILITY
Incumbent makes a substantial contribution to the effectiveness of the City’s information technology operations and is responsible for a variety of server and personal computer hardware and software within City government. Incumbent determines most effective methods by which to achieve desired results, with special priorities set by the Information Technology Administrator.
Reports to the Information Technology Administrator.
PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS
Incumbent maintains contact with a wide variety of City personnel at all levels, as well as outside agencies or vendors relating to the effective operation of the City’s information technology resources.
Pay range for this position:
$28.29 to $37.98 per hour (37.5 hours/week), based on experience and qualifications. Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance as well as a retirement plan with employer contribution, group life insurance, and accrued leave time.
