Bangor International Airport is a Part 139 compliant commercial air service airport. Incumbent serves as Assistant Heating and Plumbing Technician responsible for ensuring safe and efficient operations all airport owned heating and plumbing systems. This position involves a broad range of responsibilities, from installing, troubleshooting and maintenance of all heating and plumbing systems. Under the direction of the Building Maintenance/Construction Projects Supervisor, this position plans, organizes, and assists with staff and tenants alike, to ensure the highest level of performance of all heating/plumbing systems.

DUTIES:

Assists with the necessary maintenance and repairs on all heating equipment within airport owned buildings, including circulator and condensate pumps, preheaters, converters, burners and burner controls, valves, compressors, steam traps, radiators, and other heating equipment.

Assists with the general maintenance and repairs on all heating equipment, including replacing worn belts on blowers, oiling motors, greasing fittings, replacing gaskets, and cleaning filters.

Perform various plumbing installations and repairs, including water fountains, roof drains, and floor drains; completely remodels bathroom and kitchen facilities, as directed.

Assists with maintaining the inventory of heating fuel for Airport buildings; orders, accepts delivery, and submits requisitions, as necessary.

Ability to obtain, and retain, an Airport issued security badge. Ability to adhere to all Airport security and safety policies.

Assists with the testing of all back-flow devices installed in buildings and heating systems as required for certification or directed by the State of Maine and/or Bangor Water Department guidelines.

Ability to work safely on a ladder or mobile elevated work platform (MEWP) at heights of 30 or more feet. Ability to operate a fork truck for material handling.

Assists with repairs to passenger boarding bridges and baggage handling system.

Ability to arrive on time every day, ready to work, while maintaining a professional presentation and attitude

Ability to escort contractors or vendors in all Security Identification Display Areas (SIDA), where required.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Must possess a Journeyman or Masters license by the State of Maine in heating / boiler system operation and plumbing.

Working knowledge of standard practices and procedures of construction, electrical and plumbing trades.

Ability to organize/schedule work activities, trainings and complete tasks promptly.

Working knowledge of federal, state and local code laws and regulations regarding heating and boiler systems, and ability to interpret and apply relevant laws to specific situations.

Ability to physically perform maintenance duties and safely operate a variety of tools and equipment, including hand tools and various diagnostic testing equipment.

Ability to clearly and professionally communicate with superiors, co-workers and tenants.

Knowledge of required practices and procedures for working in Airport Operations Areas.

Ability to legally operate motor vehicle, possession of a class C license.

Ability to maintain records and logs. Familiarity with SDS sheets preferred.

Ability to respond to Airport emergencies on a 24-hour basis.

RESPONSIBILITY

Work requires understanding and application of an existing body of knowledge and practices involving heating system maintenance and repair, as well as plumbing installation and repair. Incumbent uses independent judgement and must accurately determine and ensure the correction of deficiencies in Bangor International Airport’s heating and plumbing systems. Incumbent is responsible for a variety of operations, equipment and safety of others.

Reports directly to the Airport Construction and Building Maintenance Supervisor.

PHYSICAL EFFORT

Incumbent frequently lifts equipment and related components of moderate to heavy weight, and often works in awkward and/or cramped conditions, performing many functions in a prone, stooping or crouched position. Moderate physical effort is frequently required for regular periods of time. Ability to climb and work at considerable heights. Pushing, pulling, lifting of 50 pounds required. Moderate amounts of standing and walking required when escorting.


WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbent performs majority of duties indoors and is exposed to normal hazards associated with heating system and plumbing maintenance and repairs. Safety precautions must be observed at all times to ensure personal safety and the safety of others. Necessary PPE will be issued to incumbent based on need.


Pay range is $21.87 to $33.40 per hour, based on experience and license, and includes a comprehensive benefits package for a full-time position (40 hours/week).
