The Special Enforcement Team was originally established in 2004 in order to deal with "quality of life issues" affecting the City of Bangor which have been difficult to deal with using traditional patrol techniques. Officers selected to work on this team are tasked to find innovative and creative ways of dealing with police issues that are having some sort of negative impact on the community. Unlike patrol officers, members of this team are able to dedicate more time to specific issues without being called away to respond to other police matters.
