Bangor Police Officer Ty Adams accomplished something not many officers will do in their career in law enforcement. He arrested two people for Operating Under the Influence out of the same car.
At about 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9th, Bangor Dispatch was contacted by witnesses, who reported they were following a car that was operating erratically. While still on the line, the witnesses said the car had stopped in a parking lot on outer Broadway, and they had stopped with it.
When Officer Adams arrived on the scene, he spoke to the witnesses, who told him they had been following the car and watched it commit multiple traffic violations, and the suspects car came close to colliding with the witness’s car. When asked which of the persons with the suspect vehicle had been driving, as they were both standing outside the vehicle when Officer Adams found them, he was told they both had been driving. The witnesses explained the car had pulled off the roadway, and the male who had been the passenger moved to the driver’s seat and the driver moved to the passenger seat. The car then pulled back onto Broadway, before pulling off into the parking lot where they were found.
Officer Adams then interviewed the two men who had allegedly been driving. Surprisingly, both admitted they had been driving the car, admitted to swapping drivers, and both admitted they shouldn’t have been driving the car.
After they each failed field sobriety tests, Officer Adams arrested brothers Manoach Bizumuremyi, 27, and Muhoza Bizumuremyi, 28, both of Bangor, for OUI.
