City of Bangor announces registration period now open for short-term rentals
BANGOR, Maine – The City of Bangor has established an online portal for those wishing to apply for a license to operate a short-term rental, and the City will hold two informational sessions next week to answer questions about inspections of short-term rentals.
These steps are part of new regulations for short-term rentals that were adopted by the City Council in October 2023. Their intention is to ensure the safety of those occupying such a rental; minimize any adverse impacts on neighbors; and provide a licensing program that enables the City to monitor short-term rentals, their uses and their impacts.
The City recognizes that the operation of short-term rentals and the revenue they can generate for property owners may help make the City more affordable for people on fixed or limited incomes, and may
enhance and diversify the accommodations available to visitors and tourists. The regulations attempt to strike
a balance between the desire of property owners to use their properties for short-term rental use and the
desire of residents to preserve the peaceful and quiet enjoyment of their neighborhoods.
The two informational sessions on short-term rental inspections are scheduled for Tuesday, May 14, at noon and Thursday, May 16, at 6 p.m. Those interested in attending can do so in person at the temporary City Hall (at the rear of the Penquis building) at 262 Harlow St. There will also be virtual options for the Tuesday meeting and the Thursday gathering. Staff request that those interested in attending send any questions to planning@bangormaine.gov by the end of the day on Friday, May 10. Staff will answer the submitted questions at the informational sessions.
