City of Bangor issues notices regarding senior housing complex

BANGOR, Maine – The City of Bangor issued notices this week to satisfy two separate but related procedural requirements for a project to be undertaken by Penquis CAP when receiving Community Development Block Grant funding from the City.

The National Environmental Protection Act requires that land development projects undergo a screening process to determine whether they meet federal, state and local environmental standards. Penquis is pursing an affordable senior housing complex on Milford Street Extension.

In addition to local review, this process complies with a requirement of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, which provides funds through its CDBG program, to evaluate the environmental and related social and economic effects of a proposed project. Agencies also provide opportunities for public review and for comment on those evaluations.

The comprehensive study is available during the requisite public comment period where residents may submit comments that will be included in the official record. Comments may be submitted to Robyn Stanicki, the Community Development Officer, or directly to HUD via the posted notice. Project-specific inquiries should be directed to Penquis using the information available in the public environmental review record (ERR).

The full notice may be viewed here.
