Public Safety IT Technician

The City of Bangor has an exciting opportunity for an IT professional supporting the critical work of our Public Safety departments. The Public Safety IT Technician position will provide technical support to the City’s Police and Fire Departments, as well as support the City’s IT Department, and perform responsibilities which include the following: analysis and interpretation of information for the purpose of reporting, installation and maintenance of personal and mobile computer hardware, application and specialty communication software and the design / update of implemented systems. DUTIES

Installs, maintains, and provides technical support and training for personal computers including desktops, laptops/notebooks, tablets, mobile units, operating systems, and application and communication software for the Public Safety’s in house and mobile networks.

Gathers and analyzes information by working closely with personnel in user areas to collectively define objectives and assist in problem solving. Coordinates the implementation and use of cooperative information systems such as accident reporting, Criminal Justice Information Services systems, and criminal investigation and fire incident reporting software to assist County and State personnel as appropriate.

Supports internet service, security and anti-virus software and security appliances including firewalls, proxies, mail servers, VPN, and intrusion detection systems for the purpose of establishing reliable and secure access to and from the Public Safety’s in house and mobile networks.

Assists in coordinating the interfacing of personal computer operating systems with client/server systems on a variety of hardware and operating system platforms such as; Unix, Linux, Android, IOS, Microsoft Windows, and Microsoft Server.

Develops, installs, and supports the Public Safety’s Hardware/Software platforms including Spillman, Watchguard, Avigilon, S2 Access Control, Exacqvision, NAS, Laserfiche, Adobe, Microsoft Productivity Software, Open Fox, State Metrosystem, MEFIRS, MCRS, Netmotion, MiFleet (GPS), Vehicle and Body Camera equipment, SCADA, and ESRI GIS.

Coordinates all end user computer, network devices, and system training for the Police and Fire Department’s computerized software and hardware needs.

Support all dispatching computing needs including connectivity with State and County agencies, E911 technology, and maintaining the inbound and outbound phone lines.

Create and Maintain documentation and diagrams of all operational systems utilized by the City of Bangor’s Public Safety Departments.

Manage and support all Public Safety radio communication scanners and equipment.

Work with the Information Services Administrator on maintaining the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) readiness, and City’s overall Disaster Recovery (DR) network design, all hardware and software planning.

Works in conjunction with all Information Services staff in all areas of system wide, and network management as needed.

Performs other related duties as assigned.


JOB REQUIREMENTS

Thorough understanding of personal/mobile computers client server hardware, operating systems, application, and communication software as stated above.

Working knowledge of City governmental agencies and operations.

Possession of interpersonal communication skills and ability to express self orally and in writing.

A degree or equivalent training and experience in Computer Science, Criminal Justice, and Fire Education.

A high degree of discretion when working with sensitive data, equipment, and areas.

In-depth knowledge of Cloud Computing and Microsoft operating systems regarding design, installation, and maintenance of network security appliances. Including, Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Office 365 products.

Broad knowledge of Internet and networking protocols, system security applications and security policy management.
