2022 Spring Cleanup Information
Spring has sprung and we know everyone is ready to start their spring cleaning! The City of Bangor helps residents with their spring cleaning activities in these ways:
• Providing a place for residents to drop off branches, brush, plants/weeds, and leaf waste
• Providing roadside pickup service to residents to haul away fallen branches and trees
• Providing roadside pickup service to residents to haul away scrap metal
• Providing referrals to residents who have other waste for disposal
Branches, Brush, Plants/Weeds, and Leaf Waste
Residents are encouraged to bring their brush, branches, plant waste, and leaves to the organic disposal site at the Public Works facility at 530 Maine Avenue. A permit is required and can be obtained at no charge to Bangor residents at the Public Works office between 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. The yard waste drop-off is open 7 days/week from 7:00 am to sunset.
Roadside Pickup – Branches & Brush
Public Works employees will go house to house to pick up fallen branches and other woody waste. Please collect your waste and place it at your curb no later than 6:30 am on May 2, 2022. Please pile your waste parallel to the road, but not in the road, avoid low hanging wires, and don’t stack it around your household trash bin. If your branches aren’t out when we clean up your street you will need to bring them to Public Works at 530 Maine Ave. as we won’t be able to make a second trip around the city. Lumber, boards, and demolition debris will not be picked up. If these are mixed in with your branches, the branches will not be picked up.
Roadside Pickup – Scrap Metal
Public Works employees will go house to house to pick up scrap metal. Examples of acceptable metal waste include washers, dryers, charcoal grills, etc. We cannot pick up any items containing freon, anything containing liquid hazardous waste (oil, gas, diesel, kerosene, mercury, paint, etc), or electronic waste such as TV’s, computer monitors, computers, etc. Please place metal waste at your curb no later than 6:30 am on May 2, 2022. We will not be making a second trip around the city to pick up waste that was put out after we cleared your street.
We had great weather for raking last fall and a late snow so Public Works made several passes to get all the leaves around the city. Due to the thorough cleaning last fall we will not be sending crews around the city again to collect leaves this spring. Residents who do have leaves to dispose of can drop them off at Public Works during daylight hours at 530 Maine Ave.
Televisions, monitors, computers, light bulbs, and other electronics will not be picked up. These need to be disposed of properly. Electronic/Universal waste may be disposed of at Casella's Pine Tree Transfer Station located at 358 Emerson Mill Road in Hampden. Please contact them at 862-4200 for details or visit their website for hours of operation. This is not a free service and residents will be asked to pay for disposed of materials based on weight.
