Bangor City Council to Vote on Appointing Interim City Manager to the Position of City Manager

BANGOR, MAINE – The Bangor City Council is scheduled to vote Monday, February 28, 2022 on an Order appointing Deborah Laurie to the position of Bangor City Manager.  After the completion of a nationwide search and an interview selection process, the City Council determined that the best person for the job was Debbie Laurie, Interim City Manager.

During her tenure as Interim City Manager she was able to manage the day to day operations as well as work collaboratively with the Council and senior staff to navigate a number complex issues including the pandemic, ARPA funding and homelessness to name a few.  It became apparent that she was well qualified and possessed the characteristics and traits that the City Council was looking for in their next City Manager.

According to Council Chair Rick Fournier, the Council interviewed several very good candidates over the past few months.  However, working with Debbie as the Interim City Manager, she demonstrated the knowledge and leadership qualities we wanted to work with the City Council and staff to move Bangor forward.

In response, Debbie stated that the City Council has provided me with a wonderful opportunity to build upon my years of experience with the City. I look forward to working with the City Council, the citizens and employees of the City to make Bangor better every day.

Debbie is a Bangor resident, with well established relationships throughout the community.  A certified public accountant, who has served the City for nearly 30 years, most recently as Finance Director and Interim City Manager.
