Valve Replacement - Intersection of Essex Street and Stillwater Avenue
Beginning on August 25, Bangor Water District crews will be excavating in the intersection of Essex Street and Stillwater Avenue to replace an underground valve vault with a new modern style main line valve. This work is located on a key leg of Bangor Water’s distribution system and will require installation of two “linestops” by a third-party contractor to maintain water service to the customers while the vault is demolished and the new valve is installed. The project is expected to be completed within two weeks.
Traffic patterns on Essex Street will shift slightly to accommodate the work. Local traffic will be allowed to access Essex Street. Essex Street will be closed to through traffic between Garland Street and Milford Street. All through traffic on Essex Street will be detoured at Milford Street and at Garland Street. Motorists may access Stillwater Avenue via Grove and Pine Streets. There are no anticipated lane closures on Stillwater Avenue at this time.
