Bangor’s Community Connector Bus Awarded $2.89M Grant from Federal Transit Administration
BANGOR, MAINE – The U.S. Department of Transportation announced this week that the Federal Transit Authority (FTA) will award the City of Bangor’s Community Connector bus department with a $2,890,000 grant as part of its competitive Bus & Bus Facilities Infrastructure Investment Program. The City of Bangor will receive funding to replace buses operating on its fixed route that have exceeded their useful life. The new buses will be more reliable, help the city maintain bus service levels, and meet increasing service needs.
A total of 107 projects in 50 states and territories will receive funding from the FTA’s program, totaling $366.2 million, in order to update and maintain buses and related equipment and facilities.
The Bus & Bus Facilities Infrastructure Investment Program makes federal resources available to states and direct recipients to replace, rehabilitate, and purchase buses and related equipment and to construct bus-related facilities. Funding is provided through formula allocations and competitive grants.
The Federal Transit Administration provides financial and technical assistance to local public transit systems, including buses, subways, light rail, commuter rail, trolleys, and ferries. FTA also oversees safety measures and helps develop next-generation technology research.
