9/5/2014 - Fire Chief Announces Resignation
Bangor, ME. - City Manager Catherine Conlow announced today that Fire Chief Scott Lucas has submitted his resignation effective December 3, 2014. Lucas has served as Fire Chief since December 3, 2012. Lucas was selected from a field of four-nine candidates in the fall of 2012. He had previously served in the Westland, Michigan Fire Department for twenty-one years, before retiring as Assistant Fire Chief / Emergency Medical Services (EMS Coordinator).
Chief Lucas indicated that he would plan to remain as Chief through the duration of his two year contract with the City, in order to allow the city time to design and implement a successful succession plan. He stated that “he had enjoyed the opportunity to work with and for the Fire Department and the City of Bangor, and indicated that he appreciated the personal and professional development opportunities provided to him during his tenure”.
City Manager Conlow commented that during his employment with the City, Lucas had the opportunity to bring a new perspective and begin some new initiatives in inspections, education, and outreach. “ While we are sorry that he is leaving, the Department has a strong and rich tradition of providing residents outstanding fire and emergency medical services, which will continue in the interim”, according to Conlow.
Conlow noted that the City will begin the process to fill the Chief’s position in the very near future.
