City of Bangor is Proud to Announce the Renaming of the Essex Street Overpass Bridge to the Brent Cross Bridge
BANGOR – The City of Bangor is pleased to announce the Essex Street I-95 Overpass Bridge will officially be renamed the Brent Cross Bridge, in honor of life-long Bangorian, Brent Cross.
City Councilor Joe Perry testified in February before the Maine House of Representatives' Transportation Committee in support of the renaming where it was approved and passed by the legislature. The Essex Street Overpass Bridge was one that he used frequently during his regular travel. Councilor Perry said, “Brent was my personal friend and a friend to our entire community. The bridge is a symbol of how well he brought people together.”
Brent Cross was an active and well-known member of the Bangor community who worked hard to improve the City through volunteerism, outreach, and resources. He was a member of several local organizations, including founding president of the Bangor Breakfast Rotary and inductee of the Husson Business Hall of Fame. He happily represented and advocated not only for Bangor, but for the entire State of Maine, during his travels. He is a great example of the values that the citizens of Bangor are about: he was family oriented, responsible, helpful, giving, and a great neighbor and friend.
Mr. Cross was well like and respected, built lasting relationships, and was a true ambassador for the greater Bangor area. The ceremony will be held Friday, August 26, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. at the bridge. Attendees are instructed to park at the Redeemer Lutheran Church at 540 Essex Street.
