The City of Bangor, along with the West Side Watch, is hosting a free neighborhood barbeque for the West Side Village on August 27 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Second Street Park.
In addition to food, there will be a resident led discussion about property owners’ role in the revitalization of the neighborhood and how to improve a home’s curb appeal. The West Side Watch will provide an update on its efforts in the neighborhood. City staff will discuss financial programs available to property owners as well as proposed new Homeownership Assistance Programs the City is expected to implement in the coming weeks. Coupons for a free gallon of exterior paint or stain will be given away to help spur exterior improvement projects in the neighborhood.
“This will be a great opportunity for residents of the West Side Village to meet their neighbors, discuss the revitalization as a neighborhood, and help build a better community” says Jason Bird, Community and Economic Development Officer for the City of Bangor.
The West Side Village is formally defined by the City of Bangor as the area between Union Street to Buck Street and Main Street to Third Street. This area has been designated as priority area for the City’s community revitalization efforts and additional Community Development Block Grant funding has been directed to that neighborhood since 2012.
