CITY OF BANGOR RECYCLE GUIDE

 

The City of Bangor operates a comprehensive recycling program with both residential curbside collection and a drop-off center located on Maine Avenue across the street from Public Works headquarters. Curbside recycling is available to residential properties in Bangor with four or fewer housing units. The drop-off center is available to all Bangor residents.

 

The following materials are accepted at curbside. To recycle these items, please observe the following do's and don'ts.

Newspaper

Bundle in brown paper bags and place at the curb with your recycling bin.

Magazines
Catalogs
Phone Books

Mix in with the newspapers
Please- no manila folders, envelopes or file folders, no plastic and no junk mail.

Tin &
Aluminum Cans

Rinse and place in the recycling bin.

Plastic Bottles

Please, # 2 plastic only. Milk jugs, laundry detergent, bleach and softener bottles are acceptable. Look for the # 2 on the bottom of the bottle.
Please- No butter, margarine, yogurt or empty oil containers.

Glass Bottles
& Jars

Rinse and discard the plastic or metal lids.
We cannot recycle window or automotive glass.

Cardboard

Corrugated cardboard must be cut into pieces no larger than 3Ft.X3Ft. It can be placed beside or under the recycling bin.
Please remember to remove all Styrofoam or other packaging material.

Batteries

The City of Bangor does not recycle used batteries at this time.

Motor Oil

The City of Bangor does not recycle motor oil at this time.

White Goods

Old stoves, refrigerators, etc. may be taken to Industrial Metal Recycling 2630 Outer Broadway, Bangor ME.

Yard & Garden
Waste

Yard and garden waste may be brought to the Public Works compound area during daylight hours for composting. Call the Penobscot County Cooperative Extension at 942-7396 for free information on backyard composting.

Household Trash

Place your household trash at the curb in garbage bags that are at least 3 mils thick.
Do not include yard waste or ashes.

Wood Ash

Cooled ash can be brought to the Bangor Recycling Center and deposited in the designated Container that is located near the end of the recycling drop off area.
