10/14/2016 - The Bangor City Council Proclaims November as ‘Ride the Bus Month’, Announces Free Rides System-wide on Election Day

Bangor, Maine - During Wednesday night’s City Council Meeting, the City Council proclaimed November as ‘Ride the Bus Month’ in Bangor.  Part of the November promotion includes free bus rides system-wide on Election Day; all bus riders on November 8 will be able to ride the Community Connector for free.    In past years, the Community Connector has offered free rides on Election Day for voters traveling to and from the polls.  This year, free rides on Election Day will be expanded to include all bus patrons.

To kick off ‘Ride the Bus Month’, the local group ‘Transportation for All’ will be holding an event in Pickering Square on Monday, October 31 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM.  The event will feature speakers, food and even a costume contest.  Everyone is invited to attend.  Additional events are planned throughout November, including senior group outings, shopping trips and more.  The goal of ‘Ride the Bus Month’ is to increase bus ridership and public awareness of the Community Connector as a provider of low-cost, safe and reliable public transportation services in the Greater Bangor area.

For those unfamiliar with the Community Connector and are interested in learning how to ride the bus, a free bus ambassador program is available.  Bus ambassadors are volunteers from the local group ‘Transportation for All’ who provide travel training.  The mission of the bus ambassador program is to help people travel with confidence on the Community Connector.  To schedule an appointment with a bus ambassador, please call the Community Connector office at (207) 992-4670.
