2/17/2015 - Adopt a Garden spaces available beginning Fri., February 20th
The Downtown Bangor Partnership’s popular Adopt A Garden program will open its “adoption” process on Friday, February 20. Community members, organizations, and businesses are invited to choose a space downtown and to design, plant, and maintain a garden. Volunteers are responsible for purchasing flowers and caring for their adopted area throughout the 2015 growing season. For individuals, groups or businesses who wish to help but cannot commit for the season, donations are also accepted. To sign up for a garden space or to make a donation, please email downtown@bangormaine.gov, call (207) 992-4234 or visit https://www.facebook.com/BangorAdoptAGarden.

Last year 47 of the available 60 spaces were adopted, and this year 70 spaces will be available throughout the Downtown District. Over 2,000 packets of seeds were donated by the Bangor Lowe’s Home Improvement for the 2015 growing season. Community organizations and schools will help grow seedlings which will be available for planting in adopted gardens. To kick off the season, the Downtown Bangor Partnership will host a “Big Dig” day on Saturday, May 9 when garden adopters can come together to plant their spaces. Questions about the program may be addressed to: Caitlin Brooke, Downtown Coordinator, (207) 992-4200 or downtown@bangormaine.gov.
