LICENSES

Business Licenses & Permits

Many types of businesses operating within the City require licensing by virtue of City Ordinance and/or State Statute. The City Clerk's office is responsible for receiving, processing, and issuing applications, licenses, and license renewals. Applications for licenses are reviewed by various city departments prior to issuance. All license fees are intended to cover the administrative costs associated with processing the application, and are non-refundable.

Most Business Licenses are renewable annually.

*** Taxi Cab Licenses are initiated at the Bangor Police Department and then brought by the applicant to the City Clerk's Office for processing.

Dog License

The State of Maine requires that dogs be licensed in the town of residence of the owner. Each dog six months of age or older must be licensed. Dog licenses expire on December 31st of each year. Additional late fees are imposed after January 31st of each year.  The City licenses Online Dog Licensingapproximately 1,700 dogs each year. City Code limits the number of dogs to be kept at any one residence to 3 (more than six months of age).

Hunting And Fishing Licenses

The City Clerk’s Office issues Hunting and Fishing Licenses for Maine Residents and Non-Residents.

A valid Maine Driver’s license (or positive I.D. and an Affidavit of Residency) is required to purchase a Resident License. Big & Small Game Hunting Licenses require proof of a prior hunting license or a certificate of Hunter Safety. Non-Resident Licenses require positive I.D.
